Contracts 101 for Non-Contracting Professionals
This workshop is targeted toward individuals that must either manage a contract process or interface with the contracting authority. Basic contract law terms, concepts, and procedures will be reviewed and discussed. It will discuss the basic elements that must be present for a contract to be formed. The advantages and disadvantages of the different contracting/purchasing methods (bidding, request for proposals, negotiated agreements, indefinite quantity/indefinite delivery agreements) will be identified. The roles and responsibilities of each party to a contract will be discussed including a brief overview of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). A boilerplate contract format will be provided. This workshop's emphasis will be on understanding how to develop and manage the contracting process so everyone is successful. While legal terms will be defined and discussed, this workshop is not intended to provide legal advice.

Contract Administration for Non-Contracting Professionals
This workshop is targeted toward individuals that must manage
and administer a contract either with or without the assistance
of a contracting expert. The basic laws, processes, and procedures
for successful contract administration are discussed. Some of
the topics to be covered are: planning; receiving, acceptance,
and inspection; contract changes and modifications; disputes,
defaults and remedies; communications; contract files; payments;
and contract close-out. The advantages and disadvantages of the
different types of contracts are also identified. This workshop
will cover contract administration from the time a need is
identified until the final paperwork is archived. [A variation
of this workshop is designed specifically for newly
elected/appointed officials and leaders.]

Writing a Functional Contract
How do you begin to write a functional contract that allows both you and your contractor to successfully complete your respective responsibilities? How do you write a contract that clearly delineates the responsibilities of each party without requiring a legal opinion every time you read the document? This workshop will provide the basic outlines required for most types of contracts and the basic clauses that should be included.
